Friday Files by Shabbat Club: Vol. 4
Notes from mom & dad, upcoming events, where we're eating + more...
I’ll be the first to admit I broke Passover. I started keeping K4P during my senior year of college, and now I actually look forward to it every year as a break from my normal routine. Still, as a food creator, sometimes my hand is forced (read: I ordered tomato cheddar with pastina at the soup store and no one made me). At least they had matzah for dipping.
Also, here’s a funny story I haven’t had anyone to share with: during that first attempt at keeping K4P, I ordered a French onion soup special without the croutons, thinking I was doing such a great job… the special was on a pizza. I tried.
Anyway—Chag Pesach Sameach and Shabbat Shalom!
Unsolicited advice from mom & dad
My parents roast me daily, so here’s some wisdom they’ve unknowingly provided for the Shabbat Club community:
Dad (on the recession): “Stock market now down five weeks in a row and now at levels 12-18 months ago. And this is just scratching the surface of what’s coming. Work hard. Anticipate. Play it tight. Save money. Be patient. Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.”
Mom (on adulting): “You should scan your important letters and keep them in your documents. Since you are so resistant to setting up a filing system and organizing your documents, you need to make sure you at least have digital copies.”
People You Should Know
Riki Zahn (27): Founder @ After Hours Club
“On a mission to create spaces for people to express emotions through creativity. Currently building After Hours Club, an art and wellness company and community hosting immersive art events around NYC to cultivate connection, creativity and mindfulness ✨”
Sander Miller (27): Strategic Account Manager @ Nominal
“Love to surf, bike, kayak, hike + go on adventures in my banged up Jeep (her name is Jolene) with my pup Marty. Avid live music fan. Leading the Sales Team at an Israeli Generative AI Startup and hosting Shabbat with JewCulture. Fun fact: I was a baby model in a Jewish magazine for Hannukah.”

Where We’re Eating: Sunn’s (Chinatown)
Everyone and their mother is talking about this new Korean banchan and wine shop—but no one’s talking about the fact that their chef is Jewish! I was lucky to snag an invite to the annual Jewish Food Society x Susan Alexandra Passover Seder, and this year it was held at Sunn’s, helmed by chef Sunny Lee. While Korean-Jewish Seder plates and braised brisket aren’t usually on the menu, you can still support Sunn’s anytime…if you can get a table ;)
Pro-tip: While you’re waiting, check out Elbow Bread across the street, run by Zoe Kanan. They’ve got giant matzo boards for the weekend and plenty of other incredible baked goods you can eat (after Passover).
P.S. This is the last possible time I can plug my Passover Guide, so check it out here:
